Have you ever had your identity stolen from a piece of paper or off the internet? If you have or have not read on.
Wow! Life is amazing. You go to sleep and receive a phone call from a friend. The friend asks is this for real. I want to know what is for real. My caller received along with everybody else in my contact list, on my email account, a request for money from me. It said I was stranded in some country or other without any money. If you respond to the email they send you, they will email you an account number to transfer your money into. Please do not do this without at least checking with the person in question first.
My friend did the right thing, she called me first. If you are friends and are leaving town for a short or long trip your true friends should be able to be in contact with you by phone or email. I can not even imagine the surprise and fright my family and friends felt when they received this distressed message supposedly from me.
This just happened to me. I received an urgent email asking me to fill out information and verify it and send it back to the email company or my email will be completely terminated within 48 hours. All I could think of was I need my emails and contact list. I immediately filled out the requirements. Iit looked real from the email company with their logo.
The next thing I know my name was being bounced around the world asking for money. Now I had to change the passwords on all my internet accounts that had the same password. Thankfully there were not that many. But I am furious and I do hope that everybody that received an email with my name on it see’s right through this fraud and does not send any money.
You hear on the television and radio how easy it is to steal somebody’s identity but this is the first time I have witnessed it first hand. The law needs to take a better look at this. I called the police and they said it was not a lawful problem. They said call the internet fraud squad 800-251-7581. I tried forever but the line was busy. Do you get the point? This is a huge problem. The recording gave me the website ic3.gov
I know I am going to be careful from now on more so than ever. I hope you have learned something from this. Be careful with the information you post on the internet. The problem is that the websites take forever to locate where you can ask a question to someone and they take forever to respond and their hardly ever is a phone number where you can call and ask a human person a question.
This leads to stress, frustration and anxiety. When you need help it is not always a phone call away. Thank you for reading my article. Please feel free to read any of my numerous articles on various subjects.
